Received a GST Notice? How to Respond Without Panic
Most GST notices are routine mismatches that can be closed with a clear reply. Here is how to read one and respond on time.
A GST notice is not an accusation of fraud. Most notices arise from mismatches between returns, input tax credit claims or e-way bill data.
Read the notice carefully
Identify the form number, the period it relates to and the deadline. Deadlines are strict, and missing them can lead to an ex-parte order.
Build your reply
- Reconcile the figures with your books and returns
- Attach invoices and supporting documents
- Ask for a personal hearing if the issue is complex
A precise, well-documented reply closes the large majority of notices at the first stage.
